Sri Lanka made history by defeating India by 110 runs in the third and final One-Day International in Colombo on August 7. With this, they clinched the series 2-0.
Sri Lanka batted first and scored 284/7 in 50 overs, due to Avishka Fernando's 96 and Kusal Mendis' fifty. Riyan Parag, making his ODI debut, grabbed three wickets.
In reply, Rohit Sharma (35) and Washington Sundar (30) could only endure Sri Lankan spinners as India was bowled out for 138 runs and lost by 110 runs.
This was India's first ODI series after their heartbreaking home defeat to Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup final in November 2023.
Meanwhile after the match, in a viral video, Virat Kohli was seen signing his India jersey and gifting it to Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis. It seemed like it was Mendis who had requested a jersey from Kohli, who was seen hurrying down the dressing room with his jersey and then signing it with a message in front of Mendis.

Virat Kohli didn’t have a very good outing in the three ODIs, as he had scores of 24, 14 and 20 runs. What was glaring was Kohli got out to spinners in all three matches, to Wanindu Hasaranga in 1st ODI, to Jeffry Vandersay in the second ODI and to Dunith Wellalage in the third and final ODI.
