SL v IND 2024: Arshdeep Singh roasted on social media after his glory shot denies India a victory in 1st ODI

Arshdeep went for a big heave and was out LBW when India needed 1 run with 14 deliveries remaining.

Arshdeep Singh | XThe first ODI between India and Sri Lanka ended in a thrilling tie at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Friday (August 2).

Chasing 231 to win, the visitors got off to a flying start thanks to Rohit Sharma’s blazing half-century (58 off 47 balls). The Indian captain added 75 runs for the opening wicket with Shubman Gill (16).

Dunith Wellalage dismissed the two openers in quick successive, before Washington Sundar, promoted to No. 4, fell for just five.

India revived themselves on two occasions, during the partnerships between Virat Kohli (24) (23) and KL Rahul (31) and Axar Patel (33), but Sri Lanka kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals to stay in the contest.

However, the tourists grabbed the momentum when Shivam Dube slammed two sixes and a boundary to level the score with 15 balls remaining in the innings. It should have been a cake walk for India, but Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka dismissed Dube on 25 to give the hosts a sniff.

Despite Dube’s wicket, India’s hopes were alive as Arshdeep Singh walked out to bat at No. 11. But the left-arm pacer, in an absolute brain fade moment, decided to go for a big heave against Asalanka and was adjudged LBW, leaving the match tied.

As Arshdeep Singh’s glory shot denied India a chance to go 1-0 up in the three-ODI series, he was trolled by the netizens on social media.
