The BCCI, on July 18, 2024, announced the ODI and T20I Team India squads for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. India is to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against Sri Lanka starting July 27.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in ODI squad, with Rohit to captain. Shreyas Iyer makes his India ODI team return, while Rishabh Pant has been named in both squads.
Suryakumar Yadav has been named T20I captain over Hardik Pandya, who lost his vice-captaincy in both formats to Shubman Gill, who will be deputy in white-ball formats.
However, eagle eyed fans quickly noticed absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma from either of the Indian squads. Also Sanju Samson was not part of the ODI squad, but was named in T20Is.
This led to severe backlash on social media by the Indian team fans as they asked questions why Ruturaj Gaikwad was dropped from both formats and Abhishek Sharma was not picked. Some of the fans also called for justice for Sanju Samson as well.
