Former Indian cricketer R Ashwin said that Team India may be concerned about star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's declining form, but he encouraged him to reply with a huge score in the second Test against Sri Lanka.
The southpaw recorded a duck in his most recent game and has only hit one fifty in his last eight innings in the format. In the first innings of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka, Yashasvi Jaiswal appeared to be in perfect form.
However, following an unfortunate run-out that entailed a collision with the bowler, he was unable to turn his promising start into a significant score. He was then dismissed by Asitha Fernando for a duck, falling to a cut shot in the second innings of the game.
He now has three ducks in Tests in less than a year, not including the duck he registered in the first innings of the warm-up match against Sri Lanka Cricket XI earlier this month. Ashwin wants Jaiswal to score some runs and get back into form.
"KL Rahul continued his form; he came in to bat after cramps but could not get his hundred, but I think it was fantastic from him. Yashasvi Jaiswal was unlucky in the first innings, and the way he got out, he can relook at that second-innings dismissal of his. He is a very, very good player, but his recent form has not supported him.
I think clarity of mind is really important for Yashasvi, and I really hope he can come back to that, concentrate well on his batting, and score a big one. Despite having so much talent, he is going through this phase; anybody can go through this phase, but for Yashasvi, I am waiting for him to score runs," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Jaiswal had come into the Sri Lanka Tests on the back of lots of white-ball cricket, including the IPL 2026 and the Afghanistan ODI series.
The second Test of the series is scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 23, at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
