Rahane and Shastri were at the helm when India defeated Australia in 2020-21 Test series | GettyFormer India cricketer Ajinkya Rahane left everyone in shock and in laughter with his brilliant mimicry skills. This happened during the Sony Sports coverage of the ongoing first Test between India and Sri Lanka, being played in Galle from August 15 onwards.

Rahane mimicked former India captain and head coach Ravi Shastri, with whom he spent quite a lot of time in the Indian team from 2016 to 2021.

Rahane was a member of the panel discussing the ongoing Galle Test between India and Sri Lanka on Sony's "Extraaa Innings" program, where the impersonation occurred.

Rahane did an amazing impression of Ravi Shastri’s usual performative way of encouraging the players. Complimented with hand gestures and other mannerisms.

After Rahane's portrayal of Shastri, presenter Samir Kochhar and former Indian cricketers Ajay Jadeja and Mohammad Kaif could not contain their laughter.

Ajinkya Rahane announced his retirement from all formats of the game on July 30, 2026. He represented India in 195 matches across all three formats, accumulating 8,414 runs at an average of 35.95, with 51 fifties and 15 centuries.

Notably, Rahane and Shastri worked together closely during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where Rahane captained India to a 2-1 series win, despite India losing the first Test in Adelaide under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, before Kohli left for India for the birth of his child.
