The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board has announced the 16-man Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming first Test against India. This Test will be played in Galle from August 15 onwards. The second and final Test of the series will be played at SSC Colombo from August 23 onwards.
Sri Lanka and India will play a Test match for the first time in Sri Lanka after 9 years. Last time India toured Sri Lanka was in 2017, when Virat Kohli-led Indian team dismantled the hosts 3-0 in the series.
Since the two-match Test series is a component of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle, each outcome directly affects both teams' points.
Dhananjaya de Silva will lead the Sri Lanka squad. The batting contingent sees Lahiru Udara, Nishan Madushka, Kamindu Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, and Sonal Dinusha tasked with countering the Indian bowling attack.
Sri Lanka has chosen Niroshan Dickwella’s experience in wicketkeeping.
Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis provide the primary spin options, while Kamindu Mendis, who is also the vice-captain, will be the home side's third spin option. Keshara Nuwantha is another spin option included in the squad.
Asitha Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando and Dilshan Madushanka have been included in the pace department of the Sri Lanka squad for the first Test against India.
