Team India’s injury issues are just going from bad to worse. After losing Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan to their respective injuries, India will reportedly miss the services of off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar for the second Test between Sri Lanka and India.

The first Test of the two-match series between Sri Lanka and India will begin on August 15 in Galle, while SSC Colombo will host the second Test from August 23 onwards. The selectors had picked Washington only for the second Test since he is recovering from a hamstring injury.

According to The Times of India, the Centre of Excellence (CoE) and the BCCI medical team want to proceed with caution regarding Washington Sundar, given the recent spate of injuries.

"At this moment, the chances of Washington going to Sri Lanka are very slim. The team management has been told to plan accordingly. The BCCI medical team is wary of pushing him into a Test match. There have been a few instances where players have broken down immediately after recovering from an injury.

Washington was picked only for the second Test, knowing it will be touch-and-go for him to gain full fitness. He hasn't played much after sustaining the injury in England last month. His workload is being carefully increased," a BCCI source told Times of India.  

The report further stated that BCCI selectors are unlikely to name any replacement for Washington Sundar if he’s officially ruled out.

"Washington will be the 16th member if he links up with the team. It needs to be assessed if it will be worthwhile to send him for a Test match without any game time. A thorough assessment will be done next week, which will include how the team is placed in Sri Lanka,” the source said.

India has already named Sarfaraz Khan as the replacement for the injured Sai Sudharsan. India already has four spinners in their squad for the two Tests: Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Saransh Jain and Manav Suthar.
