Ahead of the practice game between Sri Lanka XI and India that will begin on August 7 in Colombo, India captain Shubman Gill suffered injury scares during the team’s practice session at the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) Ground.

The first alarm occurred in the nets when Gill was struck cleanly on the right thumb while facing pacer Gurnoor Brar, according to Times Now. The 26-year-old captain quickly summoned the medical staff, leaving the training briefly to have his thumb wrapped up by a team physio.

Gill returned to the crease and eventually moved to the spin nets to finish the rest of his batting drills, demonstrating remarkable resilience.

Shubman Gill's bad luck did not end there, as later that afternoon, during a slip-catching routine, he received a second hit on his right hand after misjudging a sharp chance. The hit required him to stop fielding drills and apply an ice pack.

India is in a particularly vulnerable position at the moment with the twin injury concerns. Head coach Gautam Gambhir's team is already struggling with a thin roster before the first Test is scheduled to begin in Galle on August 15. Gill has had a sensational run in Test cricket, having scored 1109 runs in his last 10 Tests with six hundreds.
