Sai Sudharsan stayed back in Bengaluru to complete his toe injury rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence instead of flying to Sri Lanka with the Indian squad on Tuesday (August 4) for a two-match Test series.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the left-handed batter is understood to be on course to regaining full fitness and will join his teammates in Colombo by Saturday (August 8).

The Test series is slated to get underway on August 15 in Galle. Before that, Shubman Gill’s men will play a three-day warm-up fixture at the NCC Ground in Colombo starting from August 7.

Since Sudharsan will depart for the island nation by the weekend, he will miss the practice match against a local Sri Lankan XI.

The report also claimed that Sudharsan has resumed batting at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru and is likely to receive the all-clear from the CoE's medical staff to link up with the squad in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the Indian squad in Sri Lanka has been accompanied by four net bowlers.

"Harsh Dubey, Shivang Kumar, Tanush Kotian and Vipraj Nigam have joined the Indian squad as net bowlers to assist the team in the build-up to the first Test against Sri Lanka," the board said in a statement.

After featuring in a three-day practice match at the NCC in Colombo from August 7-9, Team India will travel to Galle for the series opener. They will return to Colombo for the second Test, slated to be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club from August 23-27.
