Ace India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly set to miss the upcoming two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and India. India will play the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle from August 15 onwards, and the second and final Test will be played in SSC, Colombo, from August 23 onwards.

Now, as per the Times of India report, following the first evaluation at the BCCI CoE (Centre of Excellence), the star seamer is still experiencing pain in his left knee. The stakeholders have recommended a full rehabilitation because they believe it is unsafe to force him back into cricket.

The BCCI medical staff recommended that Bumrah have an injection for the knee problem that flared up during the T20 World Cup's business end, as was reported earlier this week. The 32-year-old got the injection as planned last month, but it might take longer than expected for him to fully recuperate.

While discussions had taken place about Bumrah playing the second Test in Colombo, the medical team at the BCCI CoE does not want to take any chances with the pacers. The plan was always to wait longer than usual, and he was never scheduled to assemble in Mumbai on August 3 for the August 4 departure.

"There have been instances in the past where players have been rushed back to cricket and have broken down. You can't take that risk again, especially with Bumrah. So complete recovery is the only goal, and there is a lot of cricket left in the year. There is the Asian Games, the tour of New Zealand and even the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early next year," a source told Times of India.

With this update, the BCCI selection committee will have to name a replacement for Bumrah, and Jammu & Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi is the front-runner. Nabi toured Sri Lanka with the India A team last month and is likely to be part of the pace squad that already has Mohammed Siraj, Gurnoor Brar and Prasidh Krishna.
