The BCCI Men’s Selection Committee on Tuesday (July 28) announced India's squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to be held next month.

The Ajit Agarkar-led panel has picked a 15-member squad led by Shubman Gill, with KL Rahul continuing as the vice-captain.

The biggest takeaway from the squad announcement is the return of veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, whose last appearance for India was in January 2026.

Jadeja will be the most experienced spinner in the group, with support from Kuldeep Yadav. Washington Sundar was not available for selection in the first Test, but India will have spin-bowling all-rounders in the form of Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain, who earned a maiden Test call-up.

Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah and top-order batter Sai Sudharsan have been named in the squad, although their final availability remains subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI's Centre of Excellence.

If Bumrah is fit, he will lead the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj, with support from Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar.

Apart from Gill and Rahul, the batting line-up features Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal.

India will play two Tests on the tour of Sri Lanka which are a part of the World Test Championship cycle. The first Test will be at Galle from August 15-19, while the second will be played at Colombo (SSC) from August 23-27.

Ahead of the series, the visitors will also participate in a four-day practice match in Colombo, starting August 7.

Sai Sudharsan and Jasprit Bumrah’s availability will be subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI COE.

Washington Sundar was not available for selection for the first Test.
