India's squad for the upcoming away Test series against Sri Lanka is expected to be announced by Tuesday (July 28), with BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirming that the selection meeting will be held virtually in the coming days.

The two-match series is extremely crucial for Shubman Gill’s men as they look to climb from fifth place in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 standings.

"We will convene a virtual meeting in the next couple of days to pick the squad," Saikia said while speaking to Sportstar.

The series will kick-off in Galle on August 15, before the two teams travelling to Colombo for the second Test, scheduled from August 23 to 27.

The Indian team is likely to touch down the island nation well ahead of the opening Test to acclimatize to the conditions and will also participate in a four-day tour match at the NCC Ground in Colombo ahead of the series.

Alongside preparations for the Sri Lanka Tests, the BCCI will reportedly review India's recent performances in white-ball cricket.

According to the Sportstar report, a meeting will be conducted after the T20I squad returns from Zimbabwe.

The meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai will evaluate India's recent white-ball setbacks, focusing on team selection, overseas performance, and the long-term roadmap for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The review comes after India suffered successive white-ball series defeats in Ireland and England. The T20I side, led by Shreyas Iyer, failed to register a win in six completed games while the ODI team under Shubman Gill also conceded the series 2-1 to England.

The meeting is expected to include captain Iyer, full-time head coach Gautam Gambhir, interim coach VVS Laxman, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel and senior BCCI officials.

While no knee-jerk decisions are expected, the recent limited-overs slump has raised concerns and the board is keen to identify the reasons behind it.
