The first T20I of the four-match series between South Africa and India got underway in Durban on November 8, 2024. South Africa captain Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bowl first as the two teams met for the first time after the T20 World Cup 2024 final.
After the toss, both the teams assembled on the ground for their respective national anthems. When the time came for India’s national anthem to play, thanks to an unexpected technical glitch, the anthem was stopped twice in midst.
While some, including as captain Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel, smiled despite the stress, fans watching from the stands showed dissatisfaction with the disruption.
Despite the fact that the anthem was eventually completed, the incident had a lasting impact, briefly overshadowing the game's start. With the anthem glitch behind them, both teams were anxious to get back to cricket.
