Former Team India coach and cricket commentator, Ravi Shastri, described the two-match Test series as "a waste of time" after India crushed South Africa by seven wickets in the final game to share the honors in the two-match Test series.

The Indian cricket team made a remarkable comeback in the second and final Test in Cape Town after suffering an innings and 32-run defeat in the first Test against South Africa in Centurion.

However, the second Test ended inside five sessions in Cape Town's Newlands on Thursday, January 4, which led the cricket fraternity to question the concept of the two-match Test series.

After the match, an upset Shastri, during Hindi commentary, questioned the logic behind having a two-match Test series.

He deemed it a "waste of time" and suggested that the fixture should have included three Tests, as the Indian team won the match in five sessions, making it the shortest Test in history of the game with only 642 balls being bowled.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Ravi Shastri said on-air:After watching this Test series, the Indian cricket establishment should make sure to never play just two Tests. If some country invites you for a two-Test series, say, ‘We won’t go’.”

He added, “Two-Test match series are a waste of time. It’s neither here nor there. The focus should be on either playing T20Is and Test matches or ODIs and Test matches. They could have easily played 3 T20Is and 3 Tests [on this tour].”

Notably, India will next face Afghanistan in a 3-match T20I series at home.
