Indian fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah expressed surprise at the unexpected battin displays by both teams opening day of the second and final Test against South Africa in Cape Town on January 3.

Mohammed Siraj took six wickets in the first innings to help Team India restrict South Africa to a mere 55. In reply, Rohit Sharma-led Indian team suffered a spectacular collapse as they went from a comfortable 153 for 4 to 153 all out in a matter of 11 balls.

South Africa then ended day one on 62/3, with a total of 23 wickets falling on day one of the Test for the second time at this venue in Cape Town.

As reported by India Today, Jasprit Bumrah told Star Sports: “Cricket is always surprising. We didn’t expect that 23 wickets will fall on the opening day. But it’s exciting because you get something from the wicket if you hit the right line and length. An exciting day awaits us.”

The Indian pacer stressed that the team is focused on consistency and bowling in partnerships on Day 2 to maintain a strong grip in the game, as they are aiming to level the Test series in Cape Town.

Bumrah further noted, “We have a lot of belief in our group of bowlers. But there are a lot of new guys coming. So, we spoke about consistency and bowling in partnerships. Just like batting, there are partnerships in bowling and if you build pressure from one end, you will get wickets from the other.”

He signed off by saying, “We were happy that we were able to do it in this match. Actually, I started from the other end. But there is not too much movement and I feel the bowlers are feeling more comfortable while bowling from this end.”
