Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar hailed KL Rahul's captaincy during the ODI series in South Africa and compared the keeper’s instincts to the legendary MS Dhoni.

Rahul led the Indian cricket team to a 2-1 victory over South Africa in the recently concluded ODI series. In the series-deciding ODI match at Boland Park, Paarl, Team India secured a convincing 78-run win over South Africa to clinch the historic series.

Recently, Manjrekar praised Rahul's captaincy and commended him for making excellent Decision Review System (DRS) calls from behind the stumps during the third ODI against South Africa.

He feels Rahul's instincts are on par with the legendary wicketkeeper Dhoni when it comes to DRS calls.

Sanjay Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo: “These days, when you see KL Rahul on the ground, he looks very relaxed and in a good mind space. He captained as expected. He looks comfortable in the leadership role.”

The former cricketer continued, “He has led a lot in the IPL, in a Test match in South Africa and in one-day matches as well. You can expect KL Rahul not to make any big mistake. He is an expert in DRS. His instinct is equal to that of MS Dhoni.”

Speaking about Team India’s captaincy changes in 2023, Manjrekar noted: “It seems like Indian cricket is running on autopilot mode. Suryakumar Yadav won as captain recently, KL Rahul now. Rohit Sharma has also won a lot of games for India.”

He signed off by saying, “A lot of credit for the success must go to the players. Captaincy is good, but not game-changing. It's the players who are doing really well.”
