SA v IND 2023-24: Rahul Dravid not to coach Team India during ODI series, BCCI named replacement

India will play three ODIs on the tour of South Africa, starting December 17.

Rahul Dravid | GettyRahul Dravid will not be performing the coaching duties during India’s three-match ODI series against South Africa, starting on December 17 in Johannesburg.

Instead, the head coach will link up with the Test squad and oversee their preparations for the inter-squad game and the two-match Test series.

The BCCI confirmed the development through a press release on Saturday (December 16).

"Team India (Senior Men) Head Coach Mr Rahul Dravid, Batting Coach Mr Vikram Rathour, Bowling Coach Mr Paras Mhambrey and Fielding Coach Mr T. Dilip will link up with the Test squad and oversee their preparations for the inter-squad game and the Test series," the official release signed by Jay Shah stated.

In Dravid’s absence, the ODI team will be assisted by India A’s Coaching Staff comprising Batting Coach Mr Sitanshu Kotak, Bowling Coach Mr Rajib Datta and Fielding Coach Mr Ajay Ratra.

BCCI’s media release also mentioned that seamer Deepak Chahar will not be available for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa due to a family medical emergency. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Bengal pacer Akash Deep as his replacement.

India’s regular ODI skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli have been rested for the white-ball leg of the South Africa tour.

KL Rahul will India in the ODI series, also featuring promising youngsters such as Rinku Singh, Sai Sudarshan, Sanju Samson, and Rajat Patidar.
