India’s all-format tour of South Africa is all set to get underway with the first T20I at Kingsmead, Durban on Sunday (December 10).
All eyes will be on Rinku Singh during the series as the southpaw has landed on South African shores with a fair bit of expectations after doing well in the home T20I series against Australia.
It will be Rinku’s first outing under the coaching of Rahul Dravid, whose contract as head coach has been extended by the BCCI.
Speaking to bcci.tv, Rinku Singh shared a sneak peek into his first training session under Dravid and said that the coach backed him to stick to his methods.
"The weather is beautiful here. We went for a walk after coming here and then I went into the nets. This was the first time that I trained under Rahul Dravid and it was a great feeling. He told me to stick to what I was doing and trust my process. Dravid sir told me that it was tough to play at No. 5, but told me to have faith in my abilities," Rinku said.
Talking about the South African conditions, Rinku said they were totally different from India but he knows what it takes to succeed on bouncy wickets.
"It is quite bouncy here in South Africa. You don't get this much bounce in India, it is quite quick as well. I would look to use the pace," he stated.
The left-hander has gelled well with the team as he revealed that he generally hangs out with youngsters in the Indian side.
"I have played for Uttar Pradesh since 2013, always at No. 5. It is tough to bat there but I keep motivating myself. Me, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Jitesh Sharma, and Kuldeep Yadav hang out together. It is important to stay together," Rinku concluded.
India will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests on the tour of South Africa.
