
Having clinched a historic Test series victory over Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand gained a substantial climb up the ladder as per International Cricket Council (ICC)'s Test team rankings. Pakistan, on the other hand, drowned after succumbing to a defeat.
The kiwis, after starting the series on 102 points ahead of arch-rivals Australia by a fraction of a point, have now moved up to 105 rating points with a fantastic fourth position in the 12-team table. The Kane Williamson led side won their first away Test series against Pakistan since 1969 and as a reward find themselves only one point behind third rank, South Africa.
While, Pakistan, after entering the series at sixth position on 95 points, has now dropped to the seventh position with 92 points, one behind Sri Lanka.
The game's world governing body will next update rankings at the end of the upcoming 2-match Test series between visitors Sri Lanka and New Zealand in January.
Wellington and Christchurch will play hosts for the interesting tussle, with Tests schedule to start from 15th and 26th December, respectively.
If New Zealand wins 2-0, they will move to 109 points in the second position and Sri Lanka will drop to the seventh position on 90 points.
However, if the series result is reversed and Sri Lanka win 2-0, then they will rise to 97 points while retaining sixth place and New Zealand will fall behind Australia in the fifth position on 99 points.
