New Zealand opener Devon Conway has been ruled out for the remainder of the five-match ODI series against India after sustaining a concussion. The southpaw suffered the injury during a pre-series training mishap at Eden Park when he collided with teammate Matt Henry while attempting a catch.
Left-handed top-order batter Nick Kelly has been called up from the New Zealand A squad to link up with the senior team in Wellington on Friday (November 6) to be available for the second match, scheduled for Saturday (November 7) in Wellington.
Consequently, Auckland Aces batter Dale Phillips will replace Kelly in the New Zealand A squad for the third and final four-day match against India A starting on Saturday.
Fast bowler Henry has successfully cleared all concussion protocols and is fully available for selection for the second ODI.
“Both players were immediately treated by medical staff on-site and received Head Injury Assessments. Conway was taken to A&E for further examination which confirmed a concussion,” a NZC statement had said.
The unavailability of Conway meant Tim Seifert will get a longer rope in the ongoing ODI series at the top of the order.
India leads the five-match series 1-0. The visitors won the rain-affected first ODI in Auckland by five wickets via the DLS method, anchored by a 74-run masterclass from Virat Kohli.
