NZ v IND 2026: WATCH- ‘People should stay away from Twitter ’- Aakash Chopra after getting mocked for his ‘tough chase’ prediction

India chased down 199-run target in 13.2 overs with Abhishek making 113 in 38 balls.

Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi added a record 118 runs in powerplay | GettyFormer India opener Aakash Chopra was subjected to severe trolling for his assessment of conditions during the recent third T20I between New Zealand and India. This game was played in Wellington’s Hnry Stadium on October 27.

India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and asked New Zealand to bat first. Daryl Mitchell led the way with 89*, while Finn Allen made 40 and Bevon Jacobs made 39*, as New Zealand posted 198/3 in 20 overs. During the Kiwi innings, Aakash Chopra took to X (formerly Twitter) to share how he felt the conditions were playing.

“Looks like 170+ will be a tough chase today. #NZvInd," Chopra posted on X.

However, Chopra was brutally trolled as Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a mockery of the tough chase, putting on 118 runs in powerplay overs, with Sooryavanshi smashing 45 in 19 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes, while Abhishek Sharma went on to make 113 in 38 balls with 11 sixes and 9 fours. India waltzed to the finish line in 13.2 overs with six wickets in hand.

Aakash Chopra analyzed the game on Cricinfo.com and touched on being trolled on social media for his assessment.

“I think people should stay away from Twitter because it tends to bring the worst out of all of us. On a very serious note, I tweeted this, and I was referring to a 10-over run chase. Chasing down a target in just 10 overs is quite challenging. And see, I was right,” Chopra said on Cricinfo.com.

"On a very serious note, what exactly is happening? If you were to see the first few overs, the ball was darting around. There was movement off the surface. I thought the target would be 170-plus, as the commentators mentioned that it is a tricky surface. There is some sideways wind as well.' They made a mockery of it. That's what this Indian batting team is doing,” he added.

India now has an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, with the fourth T20I to be played at Eden Park, Auckland on October 30.
