Prasidh Krishna, India and Karnataka pacer, is reportedly set to be out of action for at least three weeks and is likely to miss the upcoming five-match ODI series between New Zealand and India that begins on November 4.

This report comes after Prasidh Krishna missed the recent third ODI between India and the West Indies. He had reportedly suffered a hamstring injury to his left leg during the second ODI in Guwahati. He bowled only five overs in the Guwahati ODI before leaving the field in the 31st over of the West Indies innings.

“It is learned that Prasidh has checked into the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in his hometown, Bengaluru. He is expected to regain full fitness in around three weeks and could start bowling at full intensity in four weeks. His recovery timeline could make his availability for the New Zealand series a tricky proposition. Even if he returns to bowling by then, he may not be ready to play at the start of the series,” The Times of India report said.

The 30-year-old is also doubtful for the opening round of the Ranji Trophy, which begins on October 11. Karnataka will open their campaign against Andhra Pradesh in Vijayawada.

The Indian squad will reportedly need to manage its fast bowlers for the ODI series, as Test-team bound players are likely to miss the last two games to prepare for the two-Test series that begins shortly after the ODIs.

Shubman Gill admitted after the defeat in New Chandigarh ODI to West Indies that player absences due to injuries and scheduling issues had been frustrating.

“I would say it’s been unfortunate due to the injuries and the scheduling of other matches.” It’s been a little bit unfortunate that we have not been able to play the bowling lineup that we would like to,” Gill told reporters.

Gill hopes to have a full-strength team ready for the ODIs against New Zealand, as India tries to decide on their ideal lineup in advance of the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“I honestly think there is not that much time to experiment. We hope to have all the players available for the next series to form the combination we want to play. The combination that we would like to play in the World Cup, we want to start playing with that combination,” he said.

India is consequently quite concerned about Prasidh's fitness. He is anticipated to play a significant role in the team's preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, as well as the tour of New Zealand. Before a crucial stage in their preparations, his setback adds to India's mounting list of worries.
