Shreyas Iyer consolidated his position at No.4 for India with another fine half-century in the third and final ODI of the series against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui this Tuesday (February 11). Iyer made 62 runs to not only help India post a fighting total of 296/7 but also create a new world record.
Iyer now holds the record for the best percentage of 50-plus scores in ODIs, making nine fifties from the 16 innings in his career so far in the 50-over version for India. Ahead of the previous record holder, former Australia captain Ian Chappell, who made eight fifties in his 16 innings.

Here's a list of players with best percentage of 50-plus scores:
56.2 (9/16): Shreyas Iyer (IND)
50.0 (8/16): Ian Chappell (AUS)
50.0 (5/10): Aaqib Ilyas (OMN)
44.5 (8/18): Anshuman Rath (HK)
43.7 (7/16): Rassie van der Dussen (SA)
Iyer may not be the best option available to the selectors, with his issues against hostile fast bowling, unlike the prodigiously talented Shubman Gill, but the 25-year-old has been a dependable run-scorer for the management in the middle-order since the last year's World Cup in UK.
In this series alone, Iyer's scores read 103, 52 and 62, taking his young career's tally in the format to 748 runs at an average of 49.87.
