Uncapped fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is likely to make his New Zealand debut during the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against India starting February 5 in Hamilton, as he has been released from the New Zealand A squad to make him ready for the home series.
The 25-year-old, who was impressive for New Zealand A, taking six wickets during the one-day series against India A, had been omitted from the squad for the upcoming first unofficial Test at Christchurch, keeping in mind the upcoming ODI series against India.
At the moment, the BlackCaps' camp is battling with the injuries as the pace trio of Lockie Ferguson (right calf), Trent Boult (left hand) and Matt Henry (left thumb) are recovering from injuries they sustained during the Test series in Australia and the national selector Gavin Larsen said they need to make Jamieson ready for the ODI series with the current injury concerns at the camp.

Larsen was quoted as saying at stuff.co.nz on Tuesday (January 28), “Kyle would have been selected for these four-day matches, but with the current injury concerns amongst our fast bowlers, we feel it's better he stays focused on white-ball cricket.”
The selector further added, “He's just finished three very competitive one-day games against India A, including an impressive 4-49 in the final game, and will play in the Ford Trophy this week to be primed for the ODI series if required. Kyle impressed the coaching staff in his time with the test squad for the Melbourne and Sydney Tests and will feel comfortable in the environment if included.”
Larsen signed off by saying, “Our fast bowling stocks are certainly being tested at the moment with Lockie Ferguson (right calf), Trent Boult (left hand) and Matt Henry (left thumb) working their way back from injuries sustained in Australia.”
Noteworthy, Jamieson has taken 72 wickets in his 25 first-class matches at an average of 27.93 while played 29 T20s and has 46 wickets to his name so far.
The three-match ODI series will get underway with the first one ODI on February 5 in Hamilton followed by second on February 8 in Auckland and final on February 11 at Mount Maunganui.
