NZ v IND 2019: WATCH- MS Dhoni plays a one-hand defensive shot to avoid getting stumped

Dhoni is master of thinking on his feet.

MS Dhoni | TwitterThere is no doubt MS Dhoni has his own way of batting. He can do whatever it takes to survive in the middle, no matter it's in the cricket textbook or not.

Another such instance was seen during the second ODI of India against New Zealand at Auckland. The 37-year-old was facing spinner Ish Sodhi when he decided to dance down the track. Sodhi, seeing him coming down, bowled outside off-stump to keep it away from his range.

Dhoni has often stretched his legs to avoid a stumping, but this time he stretched his arms and defended the ball from going in keeper's hand. While doing so, he used only one hand which fans noticed.

It was the 16th over of the match and with India already near the target, there was no chance India could lose from that stage. Dhoni also doesn't want to risk his wicket and hence was playing safely. His batting partner Rishabh Pant was batting inflow and that made the task easy for him.

Pant scored 40* off 28 balls and Dhoni added unbeaten 20 to win the game inside 20 overs.

Here is the video of Dhoni's bizarre defense:
