In a bizarre incident, New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell had to go back to the pavilion despite the HotSpot technology showing an inside edge on his bat during the second T20I against India at Eden Park, Auckland on Friday.

During the sixth over of the Kiwi innings, Mitchell was being given out LBW off a Krunal Pandya delivery. The Black Caps batsman immediately called for the use of DRS and HotSpot revealed there was a big mark on the toe-end of the bat after the ball had passed it.

In spite of the conclusive evidence, third umpire Shaun Haig said there was no bat involved. Consequently, on-field umpire raised his finger leaving the two batsmen in the middle — Mitchell and Kane Williamson — stunned.

Here’s the incident:

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. Riding on Colin de Grandhomme’s 50 and Ross Taylor’s 42, the hosts posted 158/8 in their 20 overs. Krunal Pandya was the stand-out bowler for India, claiming three wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs.

With a thumping 80-run victory in the first T20I, New Zealand are currently leading the series 1-0.
