Tours like New Zealand is a blessing for India skipper Virat Kohli, who constantly remains on the spotlight and thus badly seeks privacy.

In contrary to India and other countries where cricket is being followed ardently, Virat manages to enjoy those romantic getaways with wife Anushka Sharma by his side in New Zealand.

“Look me and my wife like to do normal things. We just like to go out for walks. If we are in place like Napier, its beautiful. (One of the nights), We were at the Marine parade, enjoying full moon sitting on the bench and just talking,” Kohli told Sky Sports in an interview, which has also been uploaded by bcci.tv.

“It’s actually the most simplest thing that gives us joy purely because we are always in the public eye and we are always doing things in-front of people. To get away and not known by anyone is something that we both like,” he added.

During the recently held Australia tour, Kohli and Anushka met the legendary Roger Federer at the Australian Open. Sharing the experience of the meet-up, the Indian captain seemed ecstatic with the fact that the Swiss legend remembered meeting him four years back.

“Amazing (feeling). I have met him a couple of times before, the fact that he remembered me was like ‘waoh’. He (Federer) told me that he met me in Sydney couple of years back during an exhibition match and I was like “waoh he remembers me”. I can’t explain that feeling. I have seen him play since I was a child and he is a great man and a great human being. He kept asking me questions and I could talk to him about mindset. It was a beautiful time spent,” Kohli fondly recollected.

When it comes to batsmanship across all three formats, Virat is simply a giant. He has already piled up 39 one-day international hundreds – only behind his batting hero Sachin Tendulkar (49) with 24 of them in run-chases.

The 30-year-old averages a mind-boggling 59.51 in ODIs from 221 matches with 10473 runs while his T20I average reads 49.25 in 65 matches with 2167 runs. Not long ago, Kohli had the average of more than 50 in the shortest format as well.

Virat has also proved his mettle in the traditional format of cricket, scoring 6613 runs at an impressive average of 53.76 in 77 matches thus far. He boasts of 25 tons in Tests with 6 of them being double.

With the age on his side, Kohli is expected to break most of the batting records by the time he finishes. However, the Delhi lad is not driven by record or any sort of personal milestone.

“When I started, if someone had told me that 10 years down the line, I would be here in my career, I would have never believed them. I play the game because of the joy that I have and purely for the love of the game and the passion that I have for playing for my country,” he said.

“If I get attached to stats that means my graph is going down and there is something wrong in my head. Personally, I can’t play in that sort of mindset. I can’t stand on the field thinking that I have to do something for myself,” Kohli added.
