Team India head coach Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathour have found themselves in hot water for taking frequent breaks from their national duties.
Dravid, along with Rathour and some of the senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul, were given the break for the ongoing New Zealand tour, as they are all scheduled to travel to Bangladesh for a bilateral series next month.
The move was highly criticised by the former cricketers because Dravid has been frequently taking breaks and it was taken just after the Indian cricket team’s disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup in 2022.
Well, many, including Ravi Shastri, believe that coaches don’t need as much time off as Dravid is taking, as the break during the IPL is enough for them to rest and spend time with their families.
Now, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja opined the same and questioned the decision, saying that coaches don’t need a break since they already get plenty of rest during the IPL.
Ajay Jadeja said on Prime Video: “Coaches don’t need a break. You get a break for two or two-and-a-half months in the IPL. I mean they are my friends. Vikram Rathour and I go back a long way. Dravid has been a great cricketer for India. I mean, no disrespect for them. But this is a job you do for a couple of years and you give in everything like the players.”
Jadeja said when he was reminded that Dravid wanted to be with the Test squad since there’s little time between the New Zealand and Bangladesh tours: “There are going to be players who are going form here to Bangladesh and there’s a four-day gap (in between).”
Notably, India will travel to Bangladesh for the first time since 2015 to play three ODIs and two Test next month. The tour will start with the first ODI in Dhaka on December 4.
