Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar said that his county stint with Lancashire was really amazing as it helped him understand about himself and his game as well. The spinner said that he is excited to play for Team India in the T20I series against New Zealand after a long break.

Notably, Sundar played two matches in the County Championship 2022 as well as three Royal London One-Day Cup games for Lancashire earlier this year before injuring his left shoulder, which forced him to miss a Zimbabwe series and spend a lot of time at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

However, he is now back with the Indian team for the limited-overs series against New Zealand. Though the start of India’s tour wasn’t good, as the first T20I was abandoned due to rain in Wellington on Friday (November 18).

Washington Sundar told Prime Video: “I spent a lot of time at the NCA, as I worked on my shoulder after I injured it playing for Lancashire, where the stint was amazing. I worked on my body and skills as well. Playing at Lancashire gave me lot of experience and made me understand about my own self and my game as well. So, it was great couple of months over there. Right now, I am very excited for this series.”

The all-rounder also revealed why he chose to stay away from playing indoor football with his Indian teammates when they were waiting for rain to stop in Wellington on Friday.

He explained, “It was a weird accident that happened five or six years ago. Before a very important tour, I was playing football and broke my ankle. I told myself that I will never again play football in my life! There are so many things to do other than just play football. I could run, do some sprints, spend a lot of time doing some mobility, unlock my hips, shoulder and all that.”

On how he and his Indian teammates are exploring the scenic country, Sundar said: “New Zealand is probably one of my most favourite and beautiful countries for me. The people here are very friendly and sweet, to be honest. It's great for me to be here, especially making my comeback through this tour and very excited for it.”

He signed off by saying, “Ever since we came here, spent a lot of time walking on the streets, going to different restaurants nearby. The coffee here has been amazing. We get a lot of privacy over here and get to do whatever we want.”
