A recent report has stated that star Australian player Travis Head and Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins were offered huge money to quit Australian cricket and become franchise cricket freelancers.
The 2023 World Cup and World Test Championship winners, Head and Cummins, were reportedly offered deals in the range of 10 million Australian dollars a year, which translates to INR 58 crore per annum, as per the Sydney Morning Herald.
This is a figure that places them among the greatest earners in Australian sports and cricket in general, and it was set by a franchise-owning group with a foothold in the very profitable Indian Premier League.
The two players presently earn between 1.5 and 3 million Australian dollars from their national team contracts, and this represents a significant increase in their earnings.
According to the article, representatives for both players graciously declined the offer, which was 'informal,' preferring to remain with their national team as core members of the current generation.
Pat Cummins and Travis Head both play for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL in 2025, where Cummins is also the captain. Furthermore, they also appear in American Major League Cricket, where Head represents Washington Freedom and Cummins plays for the San Francisco Unicorns.
This informal offer was revealed during the discussions between Cricket Australia, player representatives, and front offices of teams in the Australian Big Bash League.
