India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has become the new no. 1 T20I bowler in the latest ICC rankings update on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. After Ravi Bishnoi and Jasprit Bumrah, Chakaravarthy is only the third Indian bowler to top the ICC T20I bowling rankings.
Chakaravarthy, 34, has only just established himself as a staple in India's T20I lineup, but he has already surpassed New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy at the top of the T20I bowling rankings with a series of impressive outings.
Chakaravarthy has been playing well in the ongoing Asia Cup since taking five wickets in his second career against England at the beginning of the year.
With an economy of 4.67 and a healthy strike rate of 18, Varun Chakravarthy has claimed two wickets. Chakravarthy has risen three spots to the top of the ICC T20I bowlers’ rankings thanks to his achievements with the Indian side.
While Abhishek Sharma remains the no. 1 ranked T20I batter, thanks to a 31-run knock against Pakistan, England openers Jos Buttler and Phil Salt have crept up behind him. Salt (second) and Buttler (third) both gain one spot, while South Africa duo Dewald Brevis (up two places to 11th) and Aiden Markram (up 10 spots to equal 30th) make some ground too.
In the T20I all-rounders rankings, India's Hardik Pandya is still ranked first. This week, Pakistan's Saim Ayub moved up four spaces to tie for fifth place, while Abhishek moved up four spots to 14th.
