Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India captain Virender Sehwag, made his Delhi Premier League (DPL 2025) debut at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday (August 27). He played for Central Delhi Kings against East Delhi Riders.
Aaryavir impressed with his hitting abilities, scoring 22 runs in 16 balls, including two consecutive boundaries off India pacer Navdeep Saini. In the sixth over, Sehwag Jr. hit two more boundaries off Rounak Waghela. But after hitting 22 off 16 balls, he was dismissed in the same over.
The video of 17-year-old Aaryavir Sehwag facing off against Saini and other bowlers has gone viral online.
Speaking to the media following his recent DPL heroics, Aaryavir stated that he learned about his DPL debut against the East Delhi Riders when Yash Dhull was forced to miss the game because of his obligations in the Duleep Trophy, which began on Thursday, August 28.
"After the last game [I got to know that I will play the next one]. I took that catch in the previous match. After the game ended, Jonty [Sidhu] bhaiyya told me that I would play the next match. It felt good. The first two boundaries gave me confidence and helped me settle in. But the innings wasn't that long. I will try to stay longer in the middle next time,” Aaryavir Sehwag was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Aaryavir is eager to take guidance from his father, Virender Sehwag, as the league approaches a pivotal point.
"Absolutely. Jab father sahab bolenge to sunna to padega hi (I have to listen to my father). We are aware that we are being monitored. The scouts have their eyes on us. But we don't think about it too much, especially when we are on the field. We just focus on the game," Aaryavir concluded.
