In a big boost for Team India, Shubman Gill has recovered from the flu, which forced him out of the first-round Duleep Trophy fixture.

The star batter is set to join his teammates at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru this week, where Indian cricketers will undergo routine fitness assessment tests before the Asia Cup 2025.

Gill was supposed to lead the North Zone in the tournament, marking the beginning of India’s domestic season 2025-26. However, he was ruled out due to illness.

According to a TOI report, the Indian Test skipper is recovering well and will soon resume training. His blood tests showed no major concerns, and with the viral flu behind him, he’s expected to return to full-intensity practice shortly.

Besides Gill, several Indian players, who also featured in the recently concluded Test tour of England, have joined the Centre of Excellence for fitness assessment. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is yet to recover from the injury he sustained during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, while Hardik Pandya has started training in Baroda after clearing the fitness tests.

Among others, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Sai Sudharsan have been spotted working on their fitness and core strengthening, with Mohammed Siraj set to join them soon.

Talking about Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter has had the plaster removed from his left foot and will check-in at the Centre of Excellence for recovery process.

Gill's fitness status is a positive sign for India ahead of the continental showpiece, slated to be held in the UAE from September 9 to September 28.

India will begin their Asia Cup T20 campaign against UAE on September 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
