Former India cricketer Suresh Raina narrated a hilarious incident, involving him and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar on a plane.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest batters of all-time, Tendulkar was also a master prankster. Raina shared another glimpse of Tendulkar’s witty nature when the latter decided to have some fun at his expense on their way to a city to play a match.
"We were once going to play a Test match when I was about 18 years old, and I was sitting in business class next to Sachin paaji. The air hostess came over and said, ‘Good morning, Sachin sir. How are you?' and assuming I was Arjun Tendulkar, she said something to him about me in passing; Sachin paaji saw a chance to have some fun. He replied, 'Yes, he's not studying at all, what to do? I've even told Anjali (Tendulkar)'," Raina said on the 'Cheeky Singles' show.
Raina added that Sachin cleared the air while revisiting that flight, explaining the case of mistaken identity, but not before they and the entire team had a good laugh about it.
"Later, we went to the section where the other players were sitting, and I blurted, 'Why are you making me sit in business class? You've made me Arjun Tendulkar!' (Sachin) paaji eventually clarified it to air hostess saying, 'He's a part of the Indian cricket team, he is Suresh Raina, not my son'. Paaji loved playing such big pranks sometimes." Raina mentioned.
Raina and Tendulkar were teammates from 2006 all the way till the end of the batting maestro’s retirement.
Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket in 2013 after playing 200 Tests, 463 ODIs and one T20I. He scored the world record number of runs (15921 in Tests and 18426 in ODIs) in both formats. While Tendulkar still holds the record of most Test centuries (51), Virat Kohli surpassed his record of 49 ODI tons during the 2023 World Cup.
