Fast bowler Akash Deep of India has made headlines for reasons unrelated to cricket after receiving a notice from the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department.
The 27-year-old received the letter a few days after marking a significant life achievement. Akash Deep shared a picture of himself and his family on Instagram after realizing his dream of owning a Fortuner after India's 2-1 Test series draw in England.
According to cardekho.com, the model highlighted in the post is the most expensive model of the black Toyota Fortuner, costing more than Rs 62 lakh.
However, his happiness has been dimmed a little with the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department issuing him a notice for allegedly using a vehicle without a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP).
The dealer from whom the car was bought, M/s Sunny Motors, has also been subject to action. A month-long suspension has been imposed on the Chinhat-based dealership for delivering a car without finishing registration or installing an HSRP.
Authorities claim that the dealer gave the cricket player a black Toyota Fortuner without completing the required registration procedure. The dealer has been given 14 days to explain the situation. Even though the notice could have clouded his festivities, Akash Deep's recent on-field success has solidified his standing as a cricket player.
As per the notice from the department, Section 39 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, clearly states that no vehicle can be used in a public place without registration and proper display of the registration mark. HSRP and the Third Registration Mark are not only legal requirements but also crucial for vehicle identification and road safety.
A new Toyota Fortuner was delivered to Akashdeep Singh by M/s Sunny Motors, Chinhat, without registration, HSRP, or Third Registration Mark, in violation of Rule 44 of the CMVR, 1989, according to an official notice. According to records, the invoice was sent on August 7, 2025, and the insurance was granted on August 8. However, the road tax was not paid, and the registration was not completed.
The trade certificate will be canceled if the dealer doesn't reply within 14 days. Singh is not allowed to use the car until all conditions are satisfied; otherwise, it will be seized, and charges will be brought against him.
