Team India will not travel to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series later this month, the Times of India reported on Thursday (August 7).
As per the report, the Indian team has been given a rare ‘complete rest’ by the BCCI after the hectic tour of England featuring five Test matches.
The latest development suggests that India will only resume playing international cricket with the Asia Cup in September.
“The players requested for a break after the England series. There is a hectic international schedule for India from Sept, which also involves going to Australia for a white-ball series in Oct,” sources told the newspaper.
There have been doubts over Rishabh Pant’s availability for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, slated to get underway on September 9 in UAE.
According to TOI, the wicketkeeper-batter has been ruled out of the continental tournament due to fitness concerns.
While the southpaw won’t require surgery for the toe fracture he sustained during the fourth Test against England in Manchester, he has been ruled out of action for at least six weeks.
Meanwhile, India batter Karun Nair, who made his Test comeback during the recently held Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, will miss the upcoming Duleep Trophy due to a blow to his finger in the last innings of the fifth Test against England.
Nair reportedly suffered a minor fracture on his finger after a rising ball struck him in India’s second innings at The Oval.
The 33-year-old will not feature in the Duleep Trophy for the Central Zone owing to the injury. He has moved back to his former team, Karnataka, for the upcoming domestic season.
