A top Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official said on Wednesday that while India's August white-ball tour of Bangladesh may be delayed pending Indian government approval, the trip will not be cancelled.
The series, which is a component of the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP), will start in Dhaka on August 17 and consist of three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals.
However, the timing of the tour is now questionable due to recent political events in Bangladesh and diplomatic issues between the two countries.
According to Iftikhar Rahman, chairman of the BCB media committee, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has hinted at a possible postponement of the schedule.
“The tour is part of the FTP, so cancellation is not an option. But it may be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time,” BCB media committee chairman Iftikhar Rahman told AFP.
While the BCCI has not issued any public statements, Indian media reports reveal that the tour is awaiting official approval from the Indian government. The need comes amid poor relations between the two nations following the public revolt that resulted in the removal of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.
India last hosted Bangladesh in September-October 2024 for a red-ball and white-ball series consisting of two Tests and two T20Is. With only a few weeks until the intended start date, the boards are anticipated to have conversations to determine alternate dates that work for both parties.
