After receiving a two-year ban, English batsman Harry Brook has stated his wish to be a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) again.

Brook decided to focus his efforts on the England National Team and pulled out of the tournament before the opening game after being selected for INR 6.25 crores by the Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2025 auction.

This decision went against the BCCI's recent guideline, which stipulates that a player who is purchased during an auction and withdraws afterwards will be automatically banned for two seasons.

The BCCI announced the rule in September 2024 on the IPL website, implementing it for the 2025 season, and Brook became the first player to face the fire.

“It was an incredibly difficult decision. The IPL is an amazing tournament. It’s tough cricket, with the best players in the world. The crowds and atmosphere are amazing. It is the best franchise tournament in the world. I would love to play the IPL in the future, but for the time being, the focus is on England duties,” Brook was quoted as saying by the Hindu.

For the current series against India, Brooke is a member of the England Test Squad. England won the first Test, and Brook is anticipated to be a key player in the second Test, which will be held at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Despite missing a run to reach a century, he contributed 99 runs in the first innings of the first Test and did not contribute in the second.

“Historically, the Edgbaston pitch can be flatter. There is probably more in it for spinners. Otherwise, it is generally a typical English pitch. If there is any spin – and I’m completely guessing here – it will probably be late on days three, four, and five,” Brook said of the Edgbaston pitch.

The second Test begins on July 2nd at 3:30 P.M. IST.
