Young Indian middle-order batter Tilak Varma is set to ply his trade in the ongoing County season for Hampshire.
As per a press release shared by the Hyderabad Cricket Association on Wednesday (June 11), the southpaw has been approached by the English county team.
“The Hyderabad Cricket Association is happy to inform that Hyderabad International player Mr. N Thakur Tilak Varma has been approached by the team Hampshire County to play in the UK County Championship League," HCA said in a release.
“The Hyderabad Cricket Association wishes him a great stint with Hampshire County."
Tilak, who has represented India in four ODIs and 25 T20Is so far, has the experience of 18 first-class matches under his belt, in which he has amassed a total of 1204 runs with the help of five hundreds and four half-centuries.
Tilak’s last red-ball appearance was for India A against India C in the Duleep Trophy at Anantapur in September 2024.
Hampshire have played seven matches in the ongoing County Championship Division One, registering two wins, three draws and a couple of losses.
Meanwhile, another Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been signed by Yorkshire for the ongoing County season.
Gaikwad will join Yorkshire before the County Championship game against Surrey in July and will stay with the club till the end of the season, also featuring in the One-Day Cup.
“I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season," Gaikwad said in a statement.
“It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger Club in England than Yorkshire. I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware," he added.
