Shashank Singh, Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter, achieved both fame and criticism in the last two matches his team played in the IPL 2025 season. He was lauded for his knock in the IPL 2025 final, where he made 61* as his team fell 6 runs short of the RCB total.

However, Shashank also copped a lot of criticism and anger from his PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, after his lazy running between the wickets, which led to his run out in Qualifier 2 against MI.

However, Shashank, despite receiving a scolding from Shreyas Iyer for that run out, echoed many voices that there was no better captain than Iyer in the T20 world currently.

“Whatever I have spoken to others and seen, there is no better captain than him in current times in world cricket. He gives us freedom, he treats everyone equally. No one will say, Shreyas has an attitude. The youngsters in the dressing room find him to be a chill bandaa. Shreyas is the only captain, who has told us that if anyone has any suggestions during the game, they can come and convey it to him. If he feels it’s the right advice, he will take it. It’s rare,” Shashank told the Indian Express.

Iyer's criticism of Shashank after he was run out against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier Two went viral, and the batter claims he deserved it because he sprinted like he was on a beach.

“I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn’t speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach, not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you,u but later he took me out for dinner,” he states.

With 341 runs and a strike rate of 153, Shashank was the second-highest scorer for the Punjab Kings this season.

He is glad that his efforts paid off because he didn't want to be seen as a one-season wonder. He does, however, give credit to Iyer for supporting him from the beginning and to coach Ricky Ponting for helping him change his perspective.
