India haven't played Pakistan in bilateral cricket since a home limited-overs series in 2012, with their last meeting in Tests dating back to 2007. In this period, they've only clashed in multi-nation tournaments such as the World Cup and the Asia Cup.
However, their meeting in the upcoming ICC and ACC events could be in jeopardy, considering the recent hostilities between the two countries at the border.
Meanwhile, a report published in PTI claims that the future of India-Pakistan cricket at ICC events is set to be discussed at the annual conference of the sport's governing body, scheduled in Singapore from July 17-20.
"The issue is bound to come up for discussion at the annual conference. While prospect of India and Pakistan not playing in ICC knockouts is unlikely, not drawing them in the same group, which has been the norm at ICC events, is a possibility," a BCCI source told the news agency.
India and Pakistan featuring in the same group of ICC events had become a norm over the past decade but in the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and subsequent military conflict, that could change.
It is worth noting here that the BCCI holds the maximum clout in world cricket and even the ICC is headed by an Indian, Jay Shah, who would be attending the annual conference for the first time as ICC chair, having taken charge in December 2025.
Earlier this year, the BCCI had refused to send its team across the border for the ICC Champions Trophy after not getting an approval from the Indian government. As a result, all of India’s matches were held in Dubai and they won the marquee event without losing a match.
A hybrid model was agreed upon that allowed India to play their matches in Dubai. Apart from the Champions Trophy, the model was also adopted for global events in India till 2027, which means Pakistan will also be able to play matches at a neutral venue.
The Pahalgam terror attack witnessed at least five terrorists open fire on tourists at the Baisaran Valley on April 22, 2025. The Resistance Front, a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group, claimed responsibility of the dastardly attack, which took the lives of 26 civilians.
Subsequently, the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor on terror camps inside Pakistan and PoK, which led to a major military conflict between two nations.
