KL Rahul, who has been in prolific form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, might be considered for selection in India’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in August, TOI reported on Monday (May 19).
The wicketkeeper-batter has been sidelined from the T20I side since the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against England at the Adelaide Oval.
Rahul has delivered strong performances for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing IPL, excelling in both top and middle-order roles, amassing 493 runs in 11 innings at an average of 61.62 and a strike rate of close to 150. He has three fifties and a century to his name, and has batted in three different positions for the franchise.
The reports regarding Rahul's T20I turn emerged following his brilliant hundred for DC against Gujarat Titans (GT). After batting in the middle-order in the previous games, the right-hander was asked to open the innings against the Titans, and he justified the decision with a spectacular knock (112 off 65 balls).
Even before the century, Rahul looked in good touch with the bat. He played a 77-run knock against Chennai Super Kings before smashing an unbeaten 93 against his former team Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
These stunning exploits have prompted the BCCI selectors to bring KL Rahul back into the T20I side.
According to a TOI report, Rahul has given every reason to convince the "five wise men" in Indian cricket that it's time to hand him a return ticket in T20Is against Bangladesh. India are scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August this year for three ODIs and as many T20Is.
Rahul may not have played a T20I for more than two years now, he has remained a key member of the Test and the ODI side during this phase.
After the IPL 2025, Rahul will travel to England for the five-match Test series. With the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli recently calling time on their Test careers, Rahul will be one of the most experienced batters in the Indian squad, and the onus will be on him to lead the charge with the bat.
