Although there is no clear connection between the India-Pakistan conflict and the Indian cricket team's August journey to Bangladesh, recent remarks made by a former Bangladeshi military officer have cast doubt on the trip.
Amidst the standoff between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, Bangladesh’s Maj. Gen. (retired) ALM Fazlur Rahman urged Bangladesh to engage as well and take control of the “seven states of North-East India” in case India attacks them.
“If India attacks Pakistan, Bangladesh should occupy the seven states of Northeast India. In this regard, I think it is necessary to start a discussion on a joint military system with China,” Rahman said in a Facebook post in Bengali on Tuesday.
According to a Times of India article, the recent remarks regarding Northeast India raise the "bright possibility" that India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will call off the Men in Blue's tour to Bangladesh. But as of yet, no "concrete" decision has been made.
The BCB, however, said on Wednesday that India has made no communication about the tour being scrapped or suspended.
A BCB official told the Daily Star that all cricket boards are obligated to honor their FTP commitment, and they expect India to complete the tour.
“We have an understanding with the cricket boards according to FTP commitments. It is still a political matter, and if a concern comes, it will be addressed,” a Bangladesh board official told the Daily Star.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is closely monitoring the situation because its next cricket matches against Pakistan are in jeopardy due to the escalating tensions between the two nations. At the end of May, the Bangladeshi cricket team will go to Pakistan for a five-match Twenty20 International series.

Before heading to Pakistan for the series that begins on May 25 and will be played throughout Faisalabad and Lahore, the Bangladeshi cricket team is slated to play two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against the United Arab Emirates in Sharjah on May 17 and 19.
After India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ on 9 terror camps in Pakistan, Bangladesh’s travel to Pakistan will now depend on developments in the coming months. Many planes from Europe were canceled or redirected in an attempt to stay out of Pakistani airspace.
Faruq Ahmed, the president of the BCB, stated on Wednesday that they will not make a decision regarding the tour of Bangladesh until May 10. The Daily Star also heard the same opinions from a BCB source.
“It happened yesterday, and we have not discussed anything related to these developments. We have not been informed that matches will not be taking place. Of course, many things may be suspended or face changes, as this does not only affects cricket,” a BCB official told the Daily Star in Bangladesh.
