Gautam Gambhir, Team India's head coach and former opener, received a death threat on April 22, the day of a terrible terrorist assault in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that murdered 26 people, most of them were tourists. According to reports, the emails originated from "ISIS Kashmir".

On Tuesday, Gambhir condemned the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam through a post on X. In the attack, 26 civilians were killed after terrorists opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran meadow, making it one of the most horrific incidents since the 2019 Pulwama terror strike.

Gambhir, who succeeded Rahul Dravid as India's head coach in July of last year, received two threatening emails, one in the afternoon and the other in the evening, according to ANI.

Both emails featured the same threat - "IKillU" - with the former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP contacting the Delhi Police to submit a formal complaint.

The Delhi Police have since made great progress in the case. According to ANI, the Central District Police have nabbed Jigneshsinh Parmar, a 21-year-old engineering student from Gujarat, whose family claims he is mentally sick.

“In connection with the threat e-mail to cricketer Gautam Gambhir, the individual who sent the mail has been identified as 21-year-old Jigneshsinh Parmar hailing from Gujarat. He has been caught by the Central District Police team and interrogated in detail. He is an engineering student whose family has claimed he is suffering from mental health issues. Further investigation is in progress,” the Delhi Police was quoted by ANI.

This is not the first time Gambhir has faced such threats. In November 2021, during his tenure as a Member of Parliament, he had also received a similar threat email.
