Ex-Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria accuses his own country of sheltering and nurturing terrorists and questioned why Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hasn’t condemned the heinous attack on tourists in India in Pahalgam on April 22.
Diplomatic and political tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated since the Pahalgam terror assault in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which killed at least 26 tourists after gunmen opened fire on innocent bystanders in Baisaran.
The casualties also included a 26-year-old Indian Navy officer and an Intelligence Bureau official. The Resistance Front, an affiliate of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, has reportedly claimed the attack.
Since then, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has openly stated that the India-Pakistan bilateral series will not resume. Meanwhile, India's head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly received death threats from ISIS Kashmir.
Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has lambasted his country's leadership for the Pahalgam terror attack, naming Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his statement on X.
“If Pakistan truly has no role in the Pahalgam terror attack, why hasn’t Prime Minister @CMShehbaz condemned it yet? Why are your forces suddenly on high alert? Because deep down, you know the truth — you’re sheltering and nurturing terrorists. Shame on you”, Kaneria wrote on X.
Kaneria, a Pakistani Hindu cricketer, played for the national squad from 2000 to 2010. Following charges of spot fixing, he received a lifetime ban from the ECB and attempted an appeal, which was denied in 2013. Kaneria reportedly admitted to meeting a matchmaker in 2018, but said he had no idea the individual was a fixer at the time.
