India haven't played Pakistan in bilateral cricket since a home limited-overs series in 2012, with their last meeting in Tests dating back to 2007. In this period, they've only clashed in multi-nation tournaments such as the World Cup and the Asia Cup.
After the recent Pahalgam terror attack in, which took as many as 26 innocent lives, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla gave his verdict on India facing Pakistan in bilateral cricket.
"We will not play with Pakistan in bilaterals going forward," Shukla said while speaking to Sports Tak.
"We are with the victims and we condemn it. Whatever our government will say, we will do. We don't play with Pakistan in bilateral series because of the government stand. And we will not play with Pakistan in bilaterals going forward. But when it comes to ICC event we play due to ICC engagement. ICC is also aware whatever is happening they will to it."
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia echoed similar sentiments as he said, "The cricketing community is deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives in the gruesome terror attack at Pahalgam yesterday. On behalf of the BCCI, while condemning this ghastly and cowardly act with strongest possible words, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed souls. In sharing their pain and grief, we stand hand in hand at this hour of tragedy."
The BCCI paid homage to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack during Match 41 of the IPL 2025 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday (April 23).
Ahead of the start of the game, one minute of silence was also observed in the stadium. As a mark of respect, all players, match officials, and even the on-air commentators sported black armbands, symbolising mourning and solidarity with those affected by the tragedy.
The board also took the decision to not showcase any display of fireworks, DJs, or cheerleaders during the match.
