India Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has reportedly decided to change his domestic team and will move from Mumbai to Goa in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season.
The 23-year-old made his first-class debut for Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium in January 2019 against Chhattisgarh and has scored a majority of his 3712 first-class runs, including 12 hundreds and 12 fifties, in 36 matches for Mumbai.
As per reports in Times of India and Indian Express, Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal on Tuesday wrote an email to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to change his cricket state team from Mumbai to Goa from the next season onwards.
"Yes, Jaiswal has decided to move to Goa. He will soon apply to the Mumbai Cricket Association for a No-Objection Certificate to move to Goa," a source told Times of India.
On the other hand, the Indian Express also spoke with persons close to Jaiswal, who corroborated his desire to relocate from Mumbai to Goa.
At the age of 23, Jaiswal's move will be significant, especially given Goa's recent qualification for the knockout stage. He follows in the footsteps of former Goa players Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad.
Despite being from Bhadohi village in Uttar Pradesh, Jaiswal has a strong emotional attachment to Mumbai, where he has spent his whole cricket career.
He originally gained attention by scoring high in the Harris Shield (an inter-school competition for under-16s) and then performed admirably for the Mumbai under-16, under-19, and under-23 teams before being selected for the Mumbai senior squad.
Jaiswal was so busy with his India responsibilities that he only played one Ranji Trophy game for Mumbai last season, hitting 4 and 26 in a five-wicket loss to Jammu & Kashmir at the MCA ground in January of this year.
