Smriti Mandhana of India has been named the ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year following a record-breaking 2024 season in the format. In 2024, the left-handed opener stood out in the 50-over game, scoring a mountain of runs in style.
Mandhana achieved new career highs in One Day Internationals, scoring 747 runs in 13 innings in 2024, the most she has ever scored in a calendar year. With that total, the talented left-hander became the year's leading run-scorer in WODIs, surpassing Laura Wolvaardt (697), Tammy Beaumont (554), and Hayley Matthews (469).
Mandhana's runs averaged 57.86, and her strike rate was 95.15, helping to set the tone for India's top order.
She also scored four ODI centuries in 2024, setting a new record in the women's competition, and blasted more than a hundred boundaries, including 95 fours and six maximums. She achieved the no.1 spot run-getters table in the ICC Women’s Championship- the ODI table that will cement the qualifiers for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
Mandhana is one of only five batters to reach four figures in the league, scoring an eye-popping 1358 runs in 24 Championship matches, more than 100 runs ahead of the next-best scorer (Wolvaardt).
One of the characteristics that distinguished Mandhana from others this year was her ability to perform well against top-tier opponents, hitting big runs in challenging series.
She had started well in 2024 with back-to-back hundreds to inspire a 3-0 series win against South Africa. She then scored a century in the series decider against New Zealand. Mandhana also conquered Perth, as she scored a brilliant ton against Australia, despite India losing the game.
