For the first time in World Test Championship history, Pakistan finished last in the points table. Shan Masood and his team were defeated by the West Indies by 120 runs in the second Test of the two-match series on Monday, January 27, at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
On Day 3 of the second Test against the West Indies, Pakistan were bowled out for 133 in the chase of 254 runs.
Jomel Warrican took 5/27 to shock the Pakistan team on a tricky pitch to bat on, where spin ruled. Gudakesh Motie took two wickets, while Kevin Sinclair claimed two. Jomel Warrican was named the Player of the Match as well for his contributions with the ball and the bat.
Meanwhile, the two-Test series between Pakistan and West Indies ended in 1-1 draw. But the loss in the second Test to West Indies proved costly for the Pakistan side.
Thanks to this loss, Pakistan finished the 2023-25 WTC cycle with a points percentage of 27.98, owing to victories in five of fourteen Tests. They did win the Test series against England after coming back from 0-1 down, but they were unable to avoid finishing in last place. West Indies finished seventh with a difference of only 0.23 percentage points.
Prior to the series, Pakistan was ranked eighth with a points percentage of 24.31, not much behind West Indies' 24.24. The hosts won the first Test at Multan by 127 runs before losing the second, squandering their chances of winning the series.
In the first World Cup, Pakistan finished sixth, while Bangladesh finished last. Pakistan finished sixth in the 2021-23 cycle, with Bangladesh at the bottom. This time, Pakistan fell to last place, with Bangladesh finishing seventh.
