The ICC on Friday, January 24, 2025, announced the ICC Test Team of the Year 2024, and it featured two of the top fast bowlers in the lineup. Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins were included in the XI, with Australia being named the captain of the side.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ben Duckett have been named the openers of the XI. Jaiswal was the second-highest run-getter in 2024 with 1478 runs in 15 Tests with 3 centuries and 9 fifties. This included two consecutive double centuries against England and the best score of 214*.
Ben Duckett of England scored 1149 runs in 17 Tests with 2 centuries and a best score of 153 runs, averaging 37.06. Coming in at no. 3 was New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, who amassed 1013 runs in 9 Tests with 4 centuries and 4 fifties, and a best score of 156, averaging 59.58.
Joe Root was at no. 4 with 1556 runs in 17 Tests with 6 centuries and 5 fifties. His best score was 262 runs, and he averaged 55.57. Kamindu Mendis, who made his debut this year, made 1049 runs in 9 Tests with 5 centuries and 3 fifties. His highest score was 182*.
Harry Brook was also included in the ICC Test Team of the Year 2024 as he scored 1100 runs in 12 Tests. He scored the only triple Test ton in 2024, 317 against Pakistan, and scored 4 centuries and 3 fifties for England. Jamie Smith was the wicketkeeper in the ICC XI with 637 runs in 9 Tests with one century to his name.
India’s Ravindra Jadeja was also included as he scored 527 runs in 12 Tests with one century and 3 fifties. He also took 48 wickets with a best of 5/41. He is followed by three fast bowlers-Jasprit Bumrah, Matt Henry, and captain Pat Cummins.
Henry had an amazing 2024 in Tests with 48 wickets in 9 Tests with a best of 7/67. Pat Cummins was named the skipper of the ICC Test Team of the Year 2024, thanks to his 37 wickets in 9 Tests with a best of 5/57. He also led Australia to a 3-1 Test series win over India and regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Jasprit Bumrah reigned supreme with the most Test wickets in 2024 with 71 scalps to his name with a best of 6/45. He played a huge role in India’s Test series win over England at home and was the lone fighter for India in Australia, with 32 wickets in 5 Tests.
